Boycott Divest Sanctions (BDS)

key facts

  • BDS is a campaign to inspire global financial disengagement from Israel on the flawed basis that Israel is a uniquely un-just state.

  • BDS proponents work to weaken Israel financially.  They hope to force her to accept Palestinian demands that would endanger her security.

  • If indeed BDS is concerned with violations of international and human rights law, it is notable that they focus none of their attention on known human rights violators and oppressive governments such as Iran, Sudan, China, Saudi Arabia, or Pakistan

  • BDS is based on falsehoods such as that Israel is an Apartheid state
  • Promoting BDS is promoting the destruction of Israel, even according to anti-Israel extremists such as Norman Finkelstein (see video at right)
  • BDS draws parallels between itself and the successful boycott of Apartheid South Africa, claiming that imitating this boycott will similarly force Israel to rid itself of its "Apartheid" character.  This parallel allows BDS to also deceptively cast itself as a "human rights" movement.
